He is currently assigned to the Fraud Division of the Department of Insurance. Detective Steve Hardy has been employed with the State of California since 2004. He is currently assigned to the Urban Auto Task Force and works in the Orange County Regional Office. Both Sgt. Mendez and Det. Hardy are recognized experts in organized crime rings, fraud and the investigation of staged collision cases.
The California Department of Insurance Urban Auto Task Force was formed to investigate all aspects of staged collisions including the drivers, the occupants, the doctors and the attorneys who commit fraud, and who embezzle and launder money. This presentation will address the type of staged collisions that occur and how the investigator should proceed with the investigation. Different laws will also be discussed.
