Photography and Video
for
Reconstructionists and Investigators

Presented by

Paul Jacobs

Content will be split among class/presentation and practical application. Attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras. We will start the day with the physics of light and optics (mathematics will be covered, but I don't expect everyone to follow along). We will discuss vision and the eye. We will transition to the use of stills cameras and modern digital photography including capture, storage and presentation of digital evidence. I will present still capture techniques, especially as it relates to photographing vehicles and scenes (including at night).

We will discuss photo and video analysis, photogrammetry, photomodeling, drones and alternative camera capture (IR, UV), and photometry. All of this will culminate in the use of the camera (that they hopefully

brought) in some difficult but common situations that reconstructionists face. I would like to have space outside to stage a few vehicles that we can walk around and photograph the inside and outside of. If we have room, I would love to stage a crash scene that could be photographed. We would finish the day back in the classroom, critiquing a few sets of photos (if anyone sticks around after going outside).
